Mahashivaratri – the night of Shiva
Mahashivaratri (Mahāśivarātri) is traditionally observed throughout the night just before the new moon, with chanting, celebration and blissful intoxication. Shiva is worshipped in India in different forms, each expressing different aspects and qualities, with variations across places and traditions.
Mythology associated with this celebration include the night of union between Shiva (Śiva) and Shakti (Śakti), or the tandava (tāṇḍava) – the cosmic dance of creation and destruction – expressed as Shiva in the form of Nataraja (Naṭarāja). Another story tells of the time when Shiva saved humanity by consuming the poison that had been brought forth by the churning of the ocean as the devas and asuras fought over amrita (amṛta), the nectar of immortality.
One of his most powerful forms is Mahamrityumjaya (Mahāmṛtyuñjaya) — Shiva, the Great Conqueror of Death. In this form, he is invoked as a powerful force of healing, protection, transformation and liberation.
Mahamrityunjaya Mantra and Yantra
During this late-night session, we will chant Shiva-related stotras and mantras and spend time in meditation. In particular, we will work with the Mahamrityunjaya mantra, one of the ancient Vedic (Ṛgveda, 7.59.Verse 12) mantras associated with healing, protection, transformation and liberation.
We will then draw the Mahamrityumjaya yantra, allowing the geometry of the yantra to become a focus for meditation and contemplation.
The evening is an invitation to experience Mahāśivarātri through sound, stillness, sacred geometry, simple pūjā and connection with the transformative qualities of Shiva.
The online session is led by Antarshuddhi.

The session will take place from 7pm until 11pm (CET), on zoom. The session will be recorded (lifetime access).
No previous knowledge or experience of drawing and painting is necessary.
