Ganesha Chaturthi – Ganesha’s Birthday Celebration

Ganesha Chaturthi (Gaṇeśa Caturthī) marks the traditional celebration of Ganesha’s birth and is one of the most widely observed festivals in India. Known for his elephant head and distinctive symbolism, Ganesha is associated with new beginnings, wisdom, discernment, and the ability to navigate obstacles and challenges.

In the yogic and tantric traditions, Ganesha is connected with the Mooladhara chakra (mūlādhāra-cakra, see picture), the foundation from which growth and development unfold. Mythologically, he is the guardian of the threshold, representing the capacity to establish stability, direction, and clarity before embarking on any new undertaking.

The festival begins on September 14th and concludes on September 25th with the immersion of Ganesha images in water, accompanied by processions, music, and celebration. This ritual symbolises the cyclical nature of creation, dissolution, and renewal.

At the beginning of the festival, we will create the Ganesha yantra and explore its symbolism through mantra and meditation. Participants will be able to continue their practice with the yantra throughout the ten days of the festival as a way of cultivating focus, steadiness, and purposeful intention.
