Gaṇeśa Caturthī – Gaṇeśa’s Birthday Celebration

Short notice to join us for an online celebration of Gaṇeśa Caturthī with mantra chanting and yantra drawing and painting.

Gaṇeśa Caturthī is acknowledged as the birthday of Gaṇeśa, the beloved elephant-headed god of the Hindu tradition. He has always been associated with the removal of obstacles on the spiritual and material paths, and has been given the role of the one to take care of us on this material plane.

Gaṇeśa, from gaṇa – the people, and īśa, the Lord, is the guardian of mūlādhāra-cakra – the seat of Śakti, just as Pārvatī created him to guard the door whilst she took her bath. It was the interaction with Śiva, the aspect of consciousness, that made him what he is to us today.

This festival begins on September 6th, and concludes on September 17th when idols of Gaṇeśa are submerged in water with great processions and song and dance!

We will create the Gaṇeśa yantra at the beginning of the festival so it can be worshipped during the 10 days of this auspicious time.
